Why is More Funding Needed?

The CSU is committed to its mission of providing access to a high-quality education and creating opportunities for student achievement and a lifetime of success.

As a public university, our primary focus is for the State of California to provide full funding of the CSU so that we can continue to fulfill our mission and serve the people of this state.

Over the last two-and-a-half decades, state support per student for the CSU has declined while enrollment demands have dramatically increased. Today, state support per student remains thousands of dollars below 1990s levels. At the same time, the CSU is doing more with less, enrolling and graduating more students than ever before.

This divergenceand the decades-long trend of underinvestment for the CSUis not sustainable.

The CSU is critical to California's future and additional funding is needed to achieve our ambitious goals to increase graduation rates and eliminate the graduation gaps for underrepresented students. This will require us to add more faculty, advisors and additional classes and address other pressing needs.
