Double-Counting Courses

All campuses allow fully- or partially-certified transfer applicants to double-count courses toward:

  1. The American Institutions requirement
  2. A general education certification (either GE Breadth or IGETC)
  3. Major requirements

BakersfieldSome double-counting is permitted between General Education and major courses.
Channel Islands
Some double counting is permitted.
ChicoMajor courses and General Education can be double-counted only if articulated. Course units will not be double-counted.
Dominguez HillsAllows double-counting toward certification of General Education (GE) and American Institutions.
East BayNo exceptions.
FresnoSome majors do not allow double-counting of major preparation and GE.
FullertonAllows double-counting of major preparation and toward certification of GE.
HumboldtMajor courses and General Education can be double-counted only if articulated. Course units will not be double-counted.
Long BeachSome double-counting is permitted.
Los AngelesSome double-counting is permitted; subject to academic department approval.
Cal MaritimeDoes not allow double-counting of major preparation and toward certification of General Education (GE); major preparation and toward American Institutions (AI); and certification of GE and American Institutions.
Monterey BayNo exceptions.
Northridge Some double-counting is permitted.
PomonaNo exceptions.
SacramentoMajor courses can be double-counted without restrictions. Note: This policy was put in place as of Spring 2013.
San BernardinoDouble-counting is permitted except for philosophy and communication majors.
San Diego Allows double-count of major preparation and toward certification of General Education (GE) and American Institutions.
San FranciscoCampus allows unlimited double-counting between GE and major.
San JoséCourses can be double-counted, except for students majoring in Communication Studies.
San Luis ObispoMajor prep courses can double-count toward General Education certification, but a GE course can count toward major prep only if articulated.
San MarcosDouble-counting is permitted for lower-division courses. Double-counting is not permitted in upper-division general education.
SonomaSome double-counting is permitted.
StanislausDouble-counting is permitted for lower-division courses. Double counting not permitted in upper-division general education.
