Introducing the 8th Chancellor of the CSU

On September 23, 2020, the California State University Board of Trustees appointed Joseph I. Castro, Ph.D., as the eighth chancellor in the 60-year ​history of the institution. He ​was chosen after an intensive and rigorous six-month search process with input from faculty, staff, students and community representatives, and ​will assume leadership of the CSU in January 2021.​

The California State University is the nation’s largest four-year public university, and provides extraordinary educational opportunities to 482,000 students on 23 campuses and eight off-campus centers, stretching from Humboldt State University in the north to San Diego State University in the south. The CSU is home to 53,000 faculty and staff and is proud to be alma mater to 3.8 million living alumni.
