Erika D. Beck was appointed CSU Channel Islands' third president in March 2016.
Prior to her appointment to Channel Islands, she served as provost and Executive Vice President at Nevada State College (NSC), located in Henderson, Nevada for six years. In this role, Beck provided leadership for academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, institutional research and instructional technology.
During her tenure at NSC, Beck had the unique opportunity to build a campus from the ground up and helped to establish the first middle-tier public institution in the state of Nevada.
As a founding faculty member, Beck played a pivotal role in developing NSC’s strategic agenda, crafting the curriculum, building community relationships, and placing technology at the center of the academic community.
Through her leadership, NSC opened in 2002 with 177 students and rapidly expanded to more than 3,500 students 13 years later. A leader committed to inclusivity, NSC became a Minority Serving Institution, an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution, and an Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution during her tenure as Provost.
Beck’s accomplishments have been recognized by the larger community as indicated by her selection as a Woman of Distinction in Education by the National Association of Women in Business Leaders in 2015 and as a Top Female Business Leader in Education by the Las Vegas Business Press in 2012.
