Leroy M. Morishita was appointed as president of California State University, East Bay in 2012, after beginning his service as the university's interim president in 2011. He came to CSU East Bay from San Francisco State University, where he served as Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Holding positions of successive responsibility during his 29 years with SF State, Morishita gained a strong foundation in working collaboratively in a complex university environment: He led the development of a visionary physical master plan embodying the university's strategic plan and incorporating sustainability as a core value, and was also instrumental in closing the deal in developing a downtown campus with over 125,000 square feet of classroom and office space.
Morishita has been a Commissioner of the Western Association for Senior Colleges and Universities since 2007, and chair of its Finance & Operations Committee since 2010. He has also served on several committees for the CSU, including the CSU Risk Management Authority since 2002, serving as Chair from 2006 to 2010 and Vice Chair from 2004 to 2006; the CSU Systemwide Budget Advisory Committee since 2004; the CSU Human Resources Advisory Committee since 2008, chair of the CSU Asian American and Pacific Islander Initiative since 2011, and the CSU Investment Committee (2007-10).
Locally, he is a trustee of the Institute of Buddhist Studies in Berkeley and has served as Chair of its Board since 2010. He is a former board member of the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California; and former president and board member of Oakland's Asian Community Mental Health Services.
