May 22, 2016

Thank you President Garcia, Cal State Fullerton faculty and staff… leadership at all levels, Trustees, and distinguished guests…

Welcome, Titan alumni, family, and friends…

And good morning, graduates!

I am honored to be here this morning to join you in celebrating this momentous occasion… and to be among the first to welcome you, the Class of 2016, to the largest alumni network in the world… 250 thousand Titans and over 3 million CSU graduates strong… found in every industry and on every continent.

What is a Titan? Terrific… Inspiring… Totally Awesome. Now what?

You and your peers will be called upon to solve the most complex issues and challenges of our time with knowledge, teamwork and a passion for inclusivity and excellence.

And I know that as Cal State Fullerton graduates… you have the grit, smarts and swagger to overcome challenges, embrace opportunities and spark innovation… indeed, each of you embody the characteristics of a true Titan.

You are the economic and social engine that will drive California and this nation forward to new prosperity… and you are the protectors and advocates of social justice that will guarantee equality, equity and opportunity for all.

It is also my honor this morning to join with the university in conferring a baccalaureate degree upon a colleague, a Titan… and student leader for the entire CSU community.

Kelsey Brewer, who is graduating today with a bachelor’s degree in political science, has served our university well as a Student Trustee for the Cal State Board of Trustees since 2014.

Trustee Brewer has been a powerful champion for this university and its students, faculty, and staff during her two-year term.

Kelsey, I can speak for the entire Board of Trustees in saying how proud we are of your success.

We are honored to call you a colleague and friend… and we are forever grateful for your exemplary service to the CSU and to California.

Congratulations.

And congratulations to all of the graduates, their families and friends here this morning.
Thank you.
