CSU Monterey Bay Campus Tour

Experience a campus transformed from an army base into a regional leader in modern sustainable development! Fort Ord Military Base was closed in 1991. In 1994, CSU Monterey Bay became the 21st campus of the CSU system when land formerly known as Fort Ord was transferred to the CSU. This campus tour will cover the history of the site, including major demolition projects that are soon to be completed. We will visit the site boundaries of our two current capital building projects: a new Academic Building and the Student Union. Infrastructure relating to transportation, energy, stormwater management and habitat protection will be showcased along the way. Campus Planning and Development staff will be on hand to answer questions and share highlights of the draft campus master plan vision of how the next 20 years will shape this growing campus and the future of the CSU system.

Moss Landing Marine Laboratories Tour + Dinner at Phil’s Fish Market

Used by a consortium of seven CSU campuses, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories administers the Master of Science in marine science program for California State Universities in northern and central California, and is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in both education and research in a wide variety of disciplines including: marine ecology; the biology of marine plants, invertebrates, fishes, turtles, birds and mammals; oceanography and marine geology; chemistry and biogeochemistry.  MLML is known for a hands-on, field-oriented approach which places students, faculty, researchers and staff at the frontiers of marine science worldwide where discoveries are being made.

The lab, established in 1966, is located adjacent to Monterey Submarine Canyon, the largest such feature on the west coast of North America. To the east of MLML is the Elkhorn Slough, the largest tract of tidal salt marsh in California outside of San Francisco Bay, and an important site for shorebirds and fishes.

Join us for an hour tour led by a MLML graduate student guide where you will get a close-up view of an active marine education and research campus—visiting classrooms, a research museum, and aquarium room. Following the tour, enjoy dinner al fresco with your colleagues at Phil's Fish Market located in the heart of Moss Landing. Phil’s Fish Market is famous among locals for delicious fresh fish and seafood. Attendees will order and cover the cost of their own dinner and beverage.
