ChorSwang Ngin is the founder of the Bachelor of Arts degree in Asian and Asian American Studies at Cal State LA. She has served as chair of the Anthropology department and as director of the Asian and Asian American Studies Program.

Ngin has conducted research in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United States. Her research has also focused on Vietnamese in refugee camps in Southeast Asia. She has authored more than two dozen journal articles, book chapters and memoirs, and over two dozen confidential reports on asylum seekers.

She has served as a consultant for the World Health Organization, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, The World Bank, the Rand, several school districts, and various professional organizations in the U.S. on culture, race, racism, ethnicity, and identity.
