​Jessica Retis has served in the CSUN Department of Journalism since 2008. Her research focuses on Latinx and the media. Dr. Retis has developed curriculum improvement projects through the creation of new courses in Spanish-language journalism and new media, and has sustained involvement in departmental extra-curricular efforts. Dr. Retis has received extensive professional recognition for her work and teaching: visiting scholar positions, a continued record of publication, multiple CSUN research awards, and engagement in the wider CSU community. The recipient of two Polished Apple Awards at CSUN in 2008 and 2012, Dr. Retis is an outstanding embodiment of the Distinguished Teaching Award’s criteria that the nominee demonstrates “a concern for the welfare and future of the nominee’s students.”
