The undergraduate curriculum in oceanography, especially through authentic learning and student research and scholarship, is a natural fit for Cal Maritime; our unique campus is dedicated to hands-on learning in support of maritime-related fields.
A Cal Maritime faculty member since August 2013, Dr. Parker teaches in the field of oceanography with a mandate to bring the scientific process to the Cal Maritime community through undergraduate research opportunities and hosting research colleagues on campus to give marine science seminars. His research interests include the ecology of urban estuaries, coastal and equatorial upwelling regions, and polar seas. Since joining Cal Maritime, Dr. Parker has been awarded 6 research grants and authored or co-authored 11 journal articles and technical reports. Additionally, Dr. Parker has presented his work at scientific conferences (56 published abstracts), including two presentations with Cal Maritime undergraduate cadets as lead authors at national and international venues.
