Mary Husain, Ed.D.

Outstanding Lecturer Award, 2017-18
Department of Communication

Inspiring students to question the world around them, appreciate diversity, celebrate culture, and make a positive difference in their communities, lies at the heart of education.

Dr. Mary Husain’s teaching and research reflect her life-long commitment to social justice. From an early age she questioned oppression based on race, gender and poverty, and learned the art of border crossings. As the CineCulture faculty she received the Spirit of Abraham Award from the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno in 2018, and the Way of Peace Award in 2017 from Fresno Center for Nonviolence in 2017. She sees her work as a means to create bridges of cultural understanding between diverse communities.

The Provost’s Outstanding Lecturer Award is the highest honor awarded a Lecturer. Dr. Husain’s teaching, mentoring, community engagement, and commitment to fostering respect for diversity make her meritorious of this award.
