Distinguished Teaching, Counseling or Librarianship Award
Northridge
Sociology

What I love most about being a professor is teaching and learning with passion, inspiring and being inspired by students, and making a difference in the lives of others.

Dr. Moshoula Capous-Desyllas received 73 compelling recommendations from students and faculty for this award. In her 6 years at CSU Northridge, she has taught 7 different courses, received 21 grants, chaired 4 theses, given 32 conference presentations, and published 14 journal articles, 3 textbooks, and 5 book chapters.  In addition, she has had 12 different student co-authors over 7 different publications.  She mentors students in the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Pathways to Professoriate Program, and many of her students have pursued graduate work.  Some of the words used to describe her include, “inspirational,” “life-changing,” and “electrifying personality.” Professor Capous-Desyllas has made an incredible impact on her students and the CSUN community, and is well-deserving of the 2017 Distinguished Teaching Award.
