Phil Hampton, Professor of Chemistry and Interim Director of STEM Initiatives, is this year's recipient of The President’s Award for Innovations in Teaching and Learning. Dr. Hampton is someone whose ability to transform student learning is demonstrated across his career. The hugely successful Annual Science Carnival, started in response to a challenge Dr. Hampton levied at the Free Radicals Student Club he advised, brings science to the community in a "spooky" event the weekend after Halloween. This year more than 100 CI students created and taught downloadable, bilingual, fun demonstrations, designed to bring children and their parents into the STEM pipeline. Dr. Hampton involves his students in his research lab, and flipped the "dreaded" Organic Chemistry to great success.
