Inspired by the wisdom of Hippocrates, Dr. Newcomer’s research has historically aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of exercise in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis. His research has resulted in 50 publications and grants from the NIH and AHA. Dr. Newcomer has recently redirected much of his research attention to studying the physiological requirements of action sports and working with industry partners to develop and test action sport related products. His contributions in these research areas earned him the CSUSM Scholarship and Creative Activity Award for 2016-17.
