Steven Frye, Ph.D.

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Activity Award, 2019-20
Department of English

To experience a work of literature is to enter another world, to understand it is to enrich your own, to grow in empathy, compassion, and generosity of spirit.

Dr. Steven Frye’s scholarly life exemplifies the academic ideal. To his credit are seventeen peer-reviewed articles, two book chapters, and ten books that he either authored, edited and contributed to, or co-edited. Three of these are published with Cambridge University Press, an imprint of the highest academic order that publishes only the most rigorous of scholarship on subjects of established significance. According to the eminent Americanist, Eric Carl Link, “Dr. Steve Frye is a highly accomplished scholar with an international reputation. He is the preeminent Cormac McCarthy scholar in the world right now, which alone would make him a profoundly accomplished scholar, but Frye’s work extends well beyond.” He is well worthy of the Faculty Scholarship and Creative Activity Award.
