Outstanding Teacher Award, 2016-17
Department of Sciences & Mathematics
Dr. Cristina Herrera researches and writes about contemporary Chicana and Latina literature, discovering newer writers whose works have not been investigated. In 2014, she published the first book-length study that examines maternal relationships in Chicana literature, a topic that has been overlooked by many scholars in her field. Most recently, she has begun researching Chicana young adult (YA) literature and has published one of the few articles on this topic. She is also working on multiple edited volumes on young adult literature and Chicana/Latina literature. While Dr. Herrera enjoys writing sole-authored pieces, editing work gives her the opportunity to collaborate with emerging and well-established scholars in her field.
Dr. Herrera is the 2016-2017 recipient of the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Achievement in Research, Scholarship and Creative Accomplishment.
