Five California State University campuses are once again the recipients of the annual Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award presented by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.

The accolade recognizes higher education institutions throughout the United States that exemplify diversity and inclusion.

CSU campuses highlighted in the 2017 report include:

These campuses were also recognized last year.

The CSU is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse university systems in the country; more than 38 percent of employees and 60 percent of students are people of color. Twenty-one of the university's 23 campuses have been designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions.

Additionally, as the CSU rolls out it's ambitious Graduation Initiative 2025, it aims to eliminate opportunity and achievement gaps and remove barriers that impede student success to ensure all students have the opportunity to graduate in a timely manner.

University and college finalists for the HEED award are judged on their levels of achievement through initiatives, programs and outreach; student recruitment, retention and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.

Representatives of Potomac Publishing, Inc., publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity, selected the HEED Award winners. The magazine is the oldest and largest diversity magazine and website in higher education.
