The following statement can be attributed to CSU Chancellor Timothy P. White:

"On behalf of the entire California State University, I wish to congratulate Millie García on her appointment as President of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

First as president of Cal State Dominguez Hills and then at Cal State Fullerton, her visionary leadership has benefitted many thousands of students. Her efforts to ensure that all students may earn a high-quality degree by eradicating achievement gaps are particularly commendable.

The prosperity of our nation is inextricably linked to affordable, high-quality public higher education. Millie has been one of California's strongest advocates for public higher education and now she can continue that work on a national level. While we will miss her leadership in the CSU, I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role."

On November 6, García, currently the president of CSUF, was named as the next president of AASCU. In the coming weeks, Chancellor White will visit the CSUF campus to meet with García and her leadership team and members of the campus community to discuss the appointment of an interim president.  The CSU will conduct a national search for a successor for García.
