Did you know that February and March are when the greatest number of students apply for a summer internship? 

Every CSU campus can tell you about internships you should consider -- just visit the career development or career services center at your school. They can also help you put together your resume and offer guidance on honing your interview skills. 

Here are just a few examples of great summer internships at the CSU you can apply for right now:

Learn how government works -- from the inside

Internship:  Cal State D.C. Scholars Program,  CSU Fullerton

What It Is:  Part of an 11-year-old program that offers students opportunities to study and intern in the nation's capital.

Congressional offices, nonprofits, advocacy groups, lobbying firms and think tanks are among the organizations that offer internships.

Application deadline: February 12, 2018 (Students who apply after this date may be placed on a waiting list.)


Get your foot in the door of the entertainment industry

Internship:  CSU Entertainment Alliance Internship Program

What It Is:  A database of hundreds of internships, most paying, that include opportunities at movie studios, production companies, radio and television stations, record labels, virtual reality start-ups, sports franchises and more.

Application deadline:  Ongoing for internships. A limited number of summer internships offer free housing for qualifying students (these are open to current CSU students and recent graduates; the deadline to apply for summer housing is May 1, 2018).


Spend your summer at the ocean

Internship: CSU Council on Ocean Affairs, Science & Technology (COAST) Summer Student Internship

What It Is: CSU undergraduate and graduate students are placed with one of 11 institutions where they work side-by-side with experts in fisheries, marine ecology, policy and marine technology.

Application Deadline:  March 5, 2018


Take a deep dive into the marine world

Internship:  CSU Monterey Bay Regional Ocean Sciences Research Experiences for Undergraduates

What It Is: CSU Monterey Bay offers a 10-week paid research experience for sophomores and juniors. Areas of research include marine biology/ecology, oceanography, ocean engineering and marine geology. With funding from the National Science Foundation, a stipend, travel and housing support is covered.
