Emily F. Hinton to Serve as the California State University's Newest Student Trustee

Hinton, a Sonoma State University student, was appointed by the governor and will serve until 2019.

​The California State University Board of Trustees welcomed a new student trustee today. Emily F. Hinton, 21, has been appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown on June 20, 2017. Hinton is a resident of Rohnert Park and has been a student at Sonoma State University since 2014.

Hinton has been chief executive officer and president of the Sonoma State University Associated Students since 2016. ​Hinton has also been an after-school children’s social worker intern at the Committee on the Shelterless from 2015 to 2016.

Hinton will join student trustee Jorge Reyes Salinas, who will replace Maggie White as the voting student trustee for the next year. White will take over as the newly-elected president of the California State Student Association, the official group representing the CSU’s entire student body, in July.

The California State University Board of Trustees is the 25-member board that adopts regulations a​nd policies governing the CSU system. The board includes two current CSU students that represent the CSU’s 479,000 students.
