Humboldt State was recognized as one of the top universities in the nation offering support for Native students, or American Indian and indigenous students. Humboldt's Indian Natural Resources, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP) provides academic and research support services to underrepresented, low-income and historically disadvantaged students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, with a specific focus on American Indian and indigenous students.

INRSEP's resources include research opportunities and academic and career counseling as well as a supportive learning community. The organization also partners with affiliated organizations such as the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) and the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).
