As the nation’s largest and most diverse public university system, the California State University is actively meeting the public’s goal of higher education access and attainment for all communities. The CSU Chancellor’s Office is thrilled to congratulate KMEX Univision 34 on its Los Angeles Area Emmys Governors Award for “Es el Momento” (The Moment is Now) – a partnership of the flagship station, the CSU and other educational leaders. The program provides parents and students with broadcast, online and in-person Spanish-language advising and materials to support completing high school and attending college.

CSU Dominguez Hills President Willie Hagan attended the 65th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards ceremony, sharing the spotlight with KMEX 34 General Manager Alberto Mier y Teran and CSU staff. His campus will host the program’s most highly attended public event – a Southern California education fair drawing up to 50,000 visitors on October 5. Sacramento State inaugurated a Northern California education fair in August that drew about 6,500 participants.

In addition to serving tens of thousands, the education fairs serve as an annual renewal of the university system’s mission embodied in the CSU Latino Initiative. The CSU system and 14 CSU campuses are Hispanic Serving Institutions, a designation that brings specialized resources and student success programs on to campus. The CSU also holds a leadership role in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, addressing higher education issues that affect Hispanic students throughout California and the United States.

Closer to home, the CSU – Parent Institute for Quality Education partnership trains parents on effective ways to get involved in their children’s path to college.

These initiatives and activities are examples of the many efforts coordinated by CSU External Relations to reach all communities in California as part of the university’s mission of access, recruitment and graduation from college.
