Three CSUs Rank Among Top Schools for Silicon Valley Hiring

Three California State University (CSU) campuses—Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, San Francisco State and San Jose State—were recognized among the top 20 universities where Silicon Valley companies hire from most frequently. Jobvite, a recruiting platform, chose universities based on how many students and alumni were hired at high-profile companies in the Silicon Valley, including Twitter, Zendesk, LinkedIn and NewRelic.

“The CSU provides a transformative education where students graduate with the hands-on skills necessary to become leaders in every region,” said Loren Blanchard, executive vice chancellor of Academic & Student Affairs. “With campuses stretched across California, CSU alumni have and will continue to play an integral role in bringing economic success to the state and nation.”

Jobvite analyzed seven million applications and 40,000 hires to determine the top-ranked schools with in-demand graduates. Among the schools ranked, San Jose State ranked as the number one school that had the most students hired by top Silicon Valley companies, followed by San Francisco State (#3) and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (#16).

Thousands of career opportunities including internships were offered last year through campus programs and systemwide initiatives. In addition to hosting career fairs and connecting students to industry leaders through campus activities, the CSU continues to expand career opportunities for students by creating partnerships. For example, the CSU Entertainment Industry Initiative’s Media Internship Program leverages relationships with entertainment companies such as Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, NBCUniversal and Time Warner to place students in internships.

Additionally, other CSU programs, such the CSU Hospitality and Tourism Management Education Initiative, the CSU Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology, and the CSU Center for Community Engagement host internships and service-learning programs that place students with companies and organizations that can lead to future employment. In 2013-14, more than 61,000 students had the opportunity to participate in 3,006 service-learning courses across the system.
