Charles R. (Charlie) Oliver, a 1967 civil engineering graduate of Auburn University, has established an impressive professional record of global proportions. Starting with Chevron Oil Company, Mechanical Equipment Company, and Ocean Science Company, in 1970 he joined the engineering and construction company Fluor Corporation in New Orleans. Advancement through the corporation has been rapid, with assignments in Houston, Singapore and London. He is currently Group President, Global Sales, and Project Finance, for Fluor Daniel, the principal engineering, construction, and diversified services unit of Fluor Corporation. Currently stationed in London, Mr. Oliver now oversees Fluor Daniel's activities in India and South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

A member of the Board of Directors of the Business Control for International Understanding, Mr. Oliver is also a founding member of the Industry Action Council of the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Former chair of the Council, Mr. Oliver remains a principal voice in the revitalization of the college's facilities and equipment. His contributions have helped focus a team of executives from the technical community of southern California working to tangibly assist the College of Engineering attain its goal of "Going from Good to Great!"

Never one to focus the spotlight on himself, Mr. Oliver continues, through his quiet and unwavering insistence on excellence, to nurture a spirit of revitalization among the college's faculty as well. His operating philosophy is that people are the most important part of any engineering project.

In recognition of his wise advice and his unselfish and dedicated support for the university, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona are proud to confer on Charles R. Oliver the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
