Emory William Morris, a distinguished humanitarian, is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. His affiliation with the foundation spans the 36 years since he left his private dental practice to serve first as the foundation's Director of Dental Education, and then became the General Director. From 1943 until 1967, he served as President and General Director. He was elected Chairman in December 1967.

Under his guidance, the Kellogg Foundation has achieved eminence in expanding educational horizons and in stimulating greater development in public health. Substantial endowments from the Foundation have generated 10 college centers for continuing education. They are notable for their advancements in instructional innovation, in functional efficiency and in architectural style.

Mr. Morris has encouraged a wide range of professionals and educators to think creatively, accept challenges with vigor and wisdom, maintain a perceptive awareness of mankind's problems, and exert genuine efforts to improve the future. In all of these functions, he has been notably successful and broadly esteemed.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to continuing education, higher education, public health and the health professions; for his stimulating leadership of scientists, scholars and humanitarians; and for his exemplary life in the fullest service to his fellow man, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona are proud to confer on Emory William Morris the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
