Mr. Frederick Teichert is a longtime leader in the Sacramento philanthropic community whose values exemplify the mission of the California State University. As executive director of the Teichert Foundation, he has built one of the region’s most prominent institutions that consistently strives to improve the area’s quality of life.

Mr. Teichert, who earned an MBA from California State University, Sacramento in 1995, created the Teichert Foundation in the early 1990s, and it annually supports numerous organizations, including Sacramento State. The foundation also encourages philanthropy through a matching-gift program with Teichert, Inc., which is one of the Sacramento area’s oldest businesses, established by Mr. Teichert’s great-grandfather.

In addition to his philanthropic work through the Teichert Foundation, Mr. Teichert is president of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and a member of the People Reaching Out Advisory Board, the Wells Fargo Bank Community Advisory Board, the Marguerite Home Foundation Board and the Policy Board to End Homelessness. He previously served as founding chair of the Board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento and chair of the American Red Cross Sacramento Sierra Chapter Disaster Relief Fundraising Committee and was a member of the Sacramento Food Bank Advisory Board.

His work at Sacramento State includes serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the University Foundation and on its Planned Giving Advisory Council; he also is a member of the President’s Circle. Mr. Teichert was honored by the Sacramento State Alumni Association with a Distinguished Service Award in 2002 for his outstanding professional achievements and community service. The Teichert Foundation has provided major support for the Teichert Foundation Endowed Construction Management Scholarship at the university.

Among his many honors and awards are a National Silver Medallion from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America; the California Teachers Association’s Outstanding Community Advocate for Education Award; the League of Women Voters’ Civic Contribution Award; and the Robert T. Matsui Community Service Award.

In recognition of his personal and professional accomplishments and meritorious service to society, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, Sacramento are proud to confer on Frederick Teichert the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
