In addition to his immensely successful career in business, Mr. Bookstein has been an extraordinary supporter of CSUN and an exemplary role model for students and the surrounding community.Over his more than four decades of distinguished public accounting, Mr. Bookstein has earned recognition for his integrity, outstanding work ethic, and the valuable service he provides to his clients. Mr. Bookstein’s philanthropic generosity and community leadership have benefitted thousands of Southern Californians, and his trademarked approach to accounting has made him a prominent and respected leader in his field.Since graduating from CSUN with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1970, Mr. Bookstein has devoted a great deal of his time, expertise, and resources to his alma mater. In 2005, Mr. Bookstein made a generous donation to what is now the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics and established the Harvey Bookstein Chair in Taxation and the Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation. The scope of the Institute includes a Low Income Taxpayer Clinic that provides free representation, service and education to taxpayers from disadvantaged communities, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program that provides free tax preparation service to low income taxpayers and valuable training and service experience to students.Mr. Bookstein currently serves on the Board of Directors for the CSUN Foundation and The University Corporation. Additionally, Mr. Bookstein serves on the Foundation’s Finance and Investment Committee and as associate chair on the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics’ Advisory Board. Mr. Bookstein is a recipient of the university’s highest honors, including a CSUN Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009 and a Volunteer Service Award in 2013. In recognition of his remarkable professional achievement, his extensive leadership and service to the community, and his exceptional generosity to and support of California State University, Northridge, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, Northridge are proud to confer upon Mr. Harvey Alan Bookstein the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
