Russell G. Mawby is a man who has spent a significant part of his life furthering the ideals of American higher education.

Throughout his professional career—as an extension specialist, professor of agricultural economics at Michigan State University, and as a director, vice president and president of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation—Mr. Mawby has sought solutions to critical problems facing our society.

Distinguished in his academic field, Mr. Mawby has not been content to focus his attention in narrowly defined work pursuits. His unselfish and untiring service to the community is especially noteworthy: he has been an Advisory Committee member of the American Enterprise Institute; a member and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; a member of the Committee on Agricultural Education Secondary Schools for the National Research Council (Board on Agriculture); a member of the Joint Council on Food and Agricultural Sciences of the United States Department of Agriculture; a member of the Board of Trustees of Youth for Understanding; and a member of Cal Poly Pomona's Arabian Horse Advisory Committee.

Mr. Mawby has provided meritorious service to the California State University and in particular to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. His outstanding work on behalf of the CSU and Cal Poly Pomona reflects the same high standards he brings to his work at the national and international levels.

In recognition of his scholarship, humanity, leadership and service to the community, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona are proud to confer on Russell G. Mawby the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
