The CSU Alumni Council appoints the Alumni Trustee to the CSU Board of Trustees, the governing body of the California State University. The term of Interim Alumni Trustee Larry Adamson ends on June 30, 2020. The Alumni Council is in the process of soliciting and evaluating nominations from campuses for the next Alumni Trustee term to run July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022.
The California State University is governed by the CSU Board of Trustees which is charged by state law with broad policy oversight of the university and its 23 campuses. The board has authority over curricular development, use of property, development of facilities, and fiscal and human resources management. There are 25 trustees. The Alumni Trustee is appointed by the CSU Alumni Council and serves a two year term that can be renewed by the Alumni Council up to three additional times (a total of eight years). The Alumni Trustee is the only trustee directly appointed to the Board of Trustees without review by the Governor or Legislature.

The CSU Alumni Council is the representative voice of the CSU's 3.7 million alumni and plays an active role in helping to shape CSU policy and participating in strategic decision-making. The Alumni Council is comprised of two representatives from each of the 23 CSU campuses (an appointed Alumni Volunteer and the campus Alumni Relations Director) and four systemwide representatives including the Alumni Trustee. The Alumni Council is a 501(c)(3) California nonprofit corporation.
The CSU Alumni Council's mission is to represent and support the interests of the campus alumni associations, alumni and the CSU. It accomplishes this by promoting and engaging the university and its alumni, advocating for the university, and facilitating professional development of the member associations.

The alumni association for each campus may nominate up to two alumni for the position of Alumni Trustee. If you are interested in being considered as a nominee, please
contact your campus alumni association to learn about their process for determining nominees. The nomination period runs from Tuesday, September 3 to Friday, November 22, 2019. The Alumni Trustee must be a graduate of a CSU campus.
The process of vetting nominees is managed by the Alumni Council Trustee Selection & Evaluation Committee (TSEC). From among the nominees, TSEC will select semi-finalists to be interviewed in-person at the CSU Office of the Chancellor in Long Beach on Wednesday, January 15 and Thursday, January 16, 2020. From among the semi-finalists, finalists will be chosen to be interviewed by the full Alumni Council board of directors at their meeting on Friday, March 13, 2020. The Alumni Trustee will be elected at that meeting by a majority vote of the Alumni Volunteer members of the Alumni Council. The term will begin on July 1, 2020 and run until June 30, 2022.
