Erika Ronchietto is the founder of the award-winning Learningden Preschool in Goleta, California. The school focuses on total development of the young child. Beginning at age 2, students learn yoga, Mandarin and academic preparedness. As part of the "whole-child" approach curriculum, children visit senior centers, attend beach clean-ups and participate in cultural programs with local universities.
The Learningden has received a 5-star rating from the QRIS, the federal entity that evaluates the quality of early education. In addition, the preschool has received recognition as an Outdoor Classroom Project Demonstration Site from 2015 to present from the Orfalea Foundation, which selects schools that represent the quality and benefit of outdoor experiences for children in early care. Learningden was also nationally accredited in 2014 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
In 2010, Erika received the "Imagine the World Award" from the Alpha Resource Center of Santa Barbara, recognizing her for being a person who helps to create an inclusive community where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. She has also volunteered for Earth Day Kidzone, Green Care for Education, the Preschool Food Initiative, Special Olympics, AIDS Walk and Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.
She is the current chair of the Kindergarten Readiness Network, an independent, community-based group with a focus on making future Santa Barbara Unified School District students more prepared for kindergarten.
Prior to Learningden, Erika taught developmentally disabled children in Santa Barbara for four years and a traditional preschool for 12 years.
