  • In her role at the California Wellness Foundation, Belk steers the foundation’s work to improve the health of traditionally underserved populations, including low-income individuals, people of color, youth, and residents of rural areas. In 2015, the foundation made direct grants totaling $38 million for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention.
  • Helped launch, and then served as senior vice president for, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors from 2002 to 2014, advising companies, foundations, individuals, and family foundations on philanthropic investments in over 30 countries totaling more than $300 million each year.
  • Served as vice president of global public affairs at Levi Strauss & Co., responsible for the company’s leadership in global, social and environmental initiatives, including the fight against AIDS. She launched anti-racism initiative “Project Change,” recognized by President Clinton with the first Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership in 1998.
  • A frequent writer and speaker on organizational ethics, race and social change; her work has appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.
  • Serves on the boards of the Surdna Foundation in New York and the Marlborough School in Los Angeles. Past board service includes National Center on Family Philanthropy, the Ms. Foundation for Women, American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
