California Superior Court, County of Alameda
B.A., English (1975)
The Honorable Brad Seligman is one of the country's pre-eminent public interest attorneys and now serves on the California Superior Court for the County of Alameda, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2012.
Hon. Seligman earned his undergraduate degree from Sonoma State University in 1975 and continues to be involved on campus, serving as a distinguished member of the Board of Advisors for SSU's Center for Ethics, Law, and Society and addressing students about civil rights and other public interest issues.
For more than 30 years, Hon. Seligman was a civil rights attorney specializing in class action and individual employment and civil rights litigation. He was founding director of The Impact Fund, providing financial and technical assistance and representation for complex public interest litigation. He is considered by peers to be a state and national champion of justice.
He has successfully litigated more than 60 civil rights class actions and countless individual employment cases, including wrongful termination actions. Hon. Seligman was lead counsel in the then-third-largest nationwide sex discrimination class action recovery in history and was co-lead counsel in the then-largest ADA access settlement. He settled the largest disability employment class action ever.
Hon. Seligman has served on the Board of Directors of Equal Rights Advocates and California Rural Legal Assistance and was chair of the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund Development Partnership. He was co-founder of the San Francisco Bay Area Plaintiffs' Employment Lawyers Association as well.
