Bertha Solares
I have the desire and aspiration to improve the lives of people who are unable to advocate for themselves.

At her lowest point, Bertha “Betty” Solares was living on the streets. Yet, after Betty learned she was pregnant with her second child, she made the life-changing decision to not let her troubled past cripple her. Instead, Betty used it as inspiration to turn her life around and dedicate her future to helping and serving others.

Today, Betty is a student at California State University, Dominguez Hills pursuing her bachelor’s degree in human services and a minor in sociology. Active on campus, Betty serves as an ambassador for the Human Services Student Association. She also volunteers at the Tarzana Treatment Centers, working with patients being treated for substance abuse and mental health issues.

After graduation, Betty aspires to earn her master’s degree in social work and help those less fortunate. She also plans on saving so that her two daughters can attend college.
