As a Mexican-American from a low socioeconomic household, Rosangela “Rosy” Odgers never expected to attend a university. However, when her father passed away, she motivated herself to pursue higher education. Her goal was to help others who suffer with the same health condition as her father.
While completing her undergraduate studies at CSU San Bernardino, Rosy volunteered at Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine, where she provided nutrition counseling for underserved communities. Today, Rosy is a first-year graduate student at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona majoring in nutrition and food science. She currently serves in the United States Air Force Reserve and has taken a leadership role on campus by working as an advisor in the CPP Veterans Resource Center.
Her master’s thesis involves helping the veteran community live a healthier lifestyle through nutrition counseling. Rosy aspires to become a registered dietitian to help others improve their quality of life.
