CSU Interim Chancellor Jolene Koester Statement on Passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein, September 29, 2023

The following statement can be attributed to CSU Interim Chancellor Jolene Koester:

“On behalf of the California State University, I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of our venerable Senator Dianne Feinstein, who leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as a tenacious champion of and committed servant to the state of California. It is a true testament to her work ethic and devotion to our state and its people that she served until her final days.

With her signature mix of elegance, keen intelligence and unwavering conviction – and as a trailblazing role model and inspiration for countless girls and women – Senator Feinstein demonstrated for our nation the value of courage, persistence, integrity and civil discourse in bridging differences and pressing for the greater good. Known as one of the few remaining lions in the Senate, she was instrumental in the passage of countless acts of legislation that have had a direct and positive benefit to the CSU community and the state as a whole, including the Violence Against Women Act, efforts to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, securing funding for a new training ship for the California State University Maritime Academy, and commonsense gun laws to help safeguard our campuses, to name just a few. We will greatly miss her leadership, and we extend our condolences to her family, friends and many admirers."
