Dr. Asad M. Madni—outstanding innovator, executive and civic leader for more than four decades - personifies the excellence and achievements that embody the objectives and ideals of the California State University and California State University, Northridge and exemplifies the university's aspirations for its diverse student body. Born in 1947 in Mumbai, India, Dr. Madni came to the United States to pursue his educational and professional goals, and became a major force in electronics, manufacturing, engineering and technology across many industries and throughout the world.

Credited with more than 150 refereed publications in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters; hundreds of research reports, internal publications, keynote addresses, invited lectures, chairs and panels; and at least 67 issued or pending patents resulting in numerous technological breakthroughs, Dr. Madni is an internationally recognized authority in intelligent sensors and system design, and signal processing, including life-saving stability control systems. Dr. Madni has led two major San Fernando Valley manufacturing and engineering companies implementing his vision—BEl Technologies, Inc. and Systron Donner Corporation - and has served on the boards of numerous other technology companies, professional organizations and academic institutions.

Dr. Madni has advised California State University, Northridge's College of Engineering and Computer Science and Tseng College of Extended Learning for more than two decades in a spirit of advancing the engineering profession, developing technologies that directly impact the human condition, and providing guidance to deserving students who aspire to a better life. Dr. Madni has served on the university's advisory boards and committees, helped develop and teach innovative curricula, supported student organizations, and personally mentored both graduate and undergraduate students. Inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2011, Dr. Madni's contributions to engineering and technology have been recognized with honorary Doctor of Science degrees outside the United States by Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada (2009) and the Technical University of Crete (2012). He is a Fellow of several professional, technical societies including the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the New York Academy of Sciences.

In recognition of his distinguished career, his seminal and pioneering research contributions to engineering and technology, and his extraordinary community service, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, Northridge are proud to confer upon Dr. Asad Madni the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
