Sarah Ludwick understands the power of philanthropy. She has influenced the social and physical landscape of the greater San Gabriel Valley, making a difference in the lives of countless people. She serves as president of the Ludwick Family Foundation, making grants to public charities throughout the United States and operating a program focused on youth civic education. She supports many organizations and endeavors.

Mrs. Ludwick is the past president of the University Educational Trust at Cal Poly Pomona, is on the board of directors of Cal Poly Pomona's Partners in Education program, and is a director on the board of the Fairplex Child Development Center Foundation.

The advancement of children emotionally, physically and developmentally is a cause near and dear to her heart. Mrs. Ludwick received a master's degree in child development from the University of La Verne and was instrumental in organizing the highly successful and popular annual auction for the Fairplex Child Development Center in 1991, which to date has raised more than $1.1 million to benefit the world-renowned facility. She continues in that role 19 years later.

Founded in 1990 by Sarah and her husband, Arthur, the Ludwick Family Foundation is a philanthropic organization committed to assisting a broad array of groups that are working to make a positive difference in the world. Contributions are national, and range from the Humane Society to schools to medical rescue and to groups such as the American Red Cross and the Girl Scouts. Both Rain Bird and the family foundation are committed to community involvement.

The Arthur & Sarah Ludwick Emergency Care Pavilion at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora was planned around a philosophy of patient-centered care that, among other benefits, includes décor and directional signage that is more user-friendly for patients and visitors. The department has the technology and flexibility to improve patient satisfaction and privacy.

Mrs. Ludwick is the ultimate friend to education. She understands and appreciates the strengths and challenges of the university and stands ready to assist with an unwavering commitment and sense of pride.

In recognition of these and many other achievements, the California State University Board of Trustees and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona are proud to confer upon Sarah L. Ludwick the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
