Humboldt State University

Michael Randolph Fielding has had a distinguished career in international accounting, while also maintaining a significant and lasting connection to Humboldt State University, his alma mater.

Fielding’s career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers included serving as senior partner and leading the work with Fortune 500 companies such as the Ford Motor Company and Burlington Resources. He was among the first Americans to acquire International Certified Public Accountant certificates in Japan and Korea, an achievement that has been matched by very few others. His many career successes also include serving as the partner-in-charge of the firm’s office in Tokyo.

Fielding earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education with a Special Secondary Credential and a Master of Arts in Business from Humboldt State College, where he also served as president of the Associated Students during his senior year. He has since remained involved in the growth and development of his alma mater, including serving as a member of the HSU Alumni Association Board. In 1980 he was recognized with a Distinguished Alumni Award for leadership in his field and service to the University.

Most recently, Fielding contributed significant time and expertise to helping create the Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation, an auxiliary organization that promotes private giving to the University and manages its endowment and other assets. He chaired the Advancement Foundation’s Board, and his leadership of this influential and knowledgeable group of volunteers, along with his fiscal oversight, has inspired trust and confidence in the management of the University’s assets. In addition, his close work with the Office of University Advancement has increased the University’s assets and developed a cohesive fundraising program. Students for many generations to come will benefit from his efforts.

In recognition of his outstanding career and dedicated service, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and Humboldt State University are proud to confer upon Michael Randolph Fielding the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
