The College of Education and Integrative Studies is a diverse and vibrant learning community dedicated to celebrating diversity, leadership, innovation, collaboration and providing interdisciplinary, integrative and hands-on learning opportunities for students. Central to Cal Poly’s mission, critical and integrative thinking, reflective practice, collaborative action and learning by doing, are the foundation on which it stands. Its goal is to prepare all students to work in partnership with their communities and to be the next leaders. The College offers undergraduate degrees, teacher credential programs, master degrees, and a doctoral degree.
The College provides the highest quality of education and professional development by ensuring that its students have opportunities to develop an understanding of key skills in social inquiry and critical thinking along with broad experiences enabling them to obtain the skills to work with people from different backgrounds, abilities, cultures, identities, and groups. Preparation is for entering a variety of fields including early childhood, teaching, school administration, community services, government, law, public policy, health, social work, urban planning, and graduate or professional schools. There are opportunities to study multiple disciplines in seminar format and active learning classes. Also, there is direct clinical practice in schools and other community settings. The College’s strong relationships with school districts in the area give graduates the opportunity to gain both real classroom teaching experiences while they’re going to college, and the connections for good job prospects once they’re credentialed.
