The External Relations and Communications division seeks to develop strong relationships between the California State University and its many audiences. It does so by communicating the impact, importance and relevance of the CSU as a state and national leader in higher education. With 23 universities throughout the state, over 4,000 degrees, more than 450,000 students and more than 4 million alumni, the CSU and its commitment to access, social mobility, affordability, diversity and economic impact for California are unparalleled. Represents and advocates for the CSU’s interest with state government leaders through comprehensive advocacy and outreach programs.
Works to advance the interests of the CSU by serving as a resource to policymakers, including the California Congressional delegation and federal agencies, national educational associations and media.
Tells the story of the CSU through feature stories, pride points and accurate and timely information that is integrated into messaging to the university community.
Manages the CSU's marketing, brand and identity strategies for the CSU. Provides guidance to Chancellor's Office leadership and to universities throughout the system, and is responsible for the overall positioning of the CSU as the most consequential public university in the nation.
Communicates breaking news and strategic messaging about the CSU to the news media and external audiences via media relations, social media and collaboration with campus communications staff.
Builds opportunities for students and celebrates the lifelong success of graduates through philanthropy and strategic engagement. Works to empower each university with data, resources and training to improve fundraising and alumni relations.
