The CSU Reaches Multi-Year Tentative Agreements with Three Unions

The California State University (CSU) announced that it has reached multi-year tentative agreements for salary increases with three unions, collectively representing more than 26,000 employees across the university system's 23 campuses. The agreements must be ratified by the membership of the three unions and will be brought to the CSU Board of Trustees for approval at its next meeting scheduled for November 7 and 8.

“Throughout the collective bargaining process, the CSU has been committed to increasing salaries for our employees in a fiscally sustainable manner that ensures we can continue to deliver on our mission of serving our diverse and talented students," said CSU Chancellor Mildred García . “We thank our labor union partners for negotiating with us to achieve these goals."

Of the 26,000 employees covered by these agreements, approximately 16,000 are staff represented by the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU). Their membership encompasses hundreds of job classifications, such as academic, administrative and technical support staff, custodians, nurses and medical assistants. This three-year agreement (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2026) provides a 10% salary increase over the first two years (a 5% increase in year one and a 5% increase in year two). This agreement also reintroduces a salary step structure in year three that contains 20 steps for most job classifications, with 2% salary increases between each step.

The other agreements are with United Auto Workers Local 4123 (UAW) and the Statewide University Police Association (SUPA), which, respectively, represent more than 10,000 CSU academic student employees and more than 330 police officers, corporals and sergeants of CSU's university police departments.

The agreement with UAW is for two years (July 1, 2023 - October 31, 2025) and includes a 5% salary increase in each year. The agreement with SUPA is for three years (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2026) and includes a 5% salary increase in each year.
